A sudden wave of forced displacement
Across ten governorates — Taiz, Lahj, Aden, Abyan, Al Hudaydah, Marib, Al Dhala’e, Al Mahrah, Hadhramaut and Shabwah — renewed military escalation by the Houthi militia has driven families from their homes in a matter of weeks. Many fled in the middle of the night, leaving behind everything they owned.
They arrive in host communities with no shelter, no food, and no access to safe water or sanitation. The Executive Unit for IDPs has called for urgent humanitarian intervention to provide shelter, food, water, sanitation, health care and protection. Every day of delay puts more women and children at risk.
Displaced families by governorate
Taiz and Lahj are bearing the heaviest burden, together hosting more than two thirds of the newly displaced families.
Total: 29,519 families (197,906 individuals) · Source: Executive Unit for IDPs Camp Management, Yemen — 28 September 2026.
